On March 2nd, 2021, the Lebanese protested the crash of the Lebanese pound, the blast in Beirut’s port that killed 211 people, the subsequent mishandling of the blast aftermath and the mismanagement of the effects of the Corona-19 pandemic. The people of Beirut demanded that the government would do a better job instead of concentrating on sectarian politics. Car tyres and dumpsters were used to block three highways in and out of the city. In many of the blockades, the car tyres were set on fire.
