Bringing a Sardine To A Catfight
18 September to 12 Oktober 2025, Kinesiska muren, Gothenburg, Sweden
Bringing a Sardine to a Cat Fight is an exhibition by Frida Peterson, Maria Safronova Wahlström, and Kaisa Luukkonen, presented at Kinesiska Muren in Gothenburg in the autumn of 2025 as part of the GIBCA Extended program.
Ropes made of soap, breaded Kapla sticks, marble crusts of bread, melting sugar towers. Everything is something other than what it claims to be in Bringing a Sardine to a Cat Fight. Here, the artists have approached one another through quarrel and play, and the aftershocks are now shown as part of GIBCA Extended.
In the exhibition, the artists ask the question: How do you play in the dark?
The hand that jokes, cares, swears, and hums with materials conjures new ways of being in the world. Or perhaps not so new. Perhaps just a little more bearable. As soap does with the noose. As the stone with the hand. As the fish with the stick. Or was it the other way around?
The visitor is left to find their own way—or perhaps better, to try together. It becomes easier that way. Or maybe simply more playful. But if we can begin by imagining, then perhaps we can still create. Before it disappears.
