a MEGAFONE
-
2023, crushed safety glass collected from the streets of Gothenburg and silicone.
The box that works as a stand and storage vessel is made out of pine plywood. -
A woman is facing a row of tall police shields. She is wearing a colourful hat, a massive rucksack and a red flaring skirt. She is minute and gigantic at the same time. She holds a wooden staff in her right hand, and in her left hand is a white megaphone. She is shouting into the megaphone.
What is it like to be there? In that place and in that time. To know that just weeks before, the military shot protesters in similar situations. You don’t know how many protestors have been killed because the officials evade that question at that moment in history. What makes you think that it’s worth the risk to push yourself between the tall bodies of the police and fellow protesters? Is it a sense of injustice? Is it anger? Are you being reckless with your life, or do you feel empowered by the cause or belonging to a group? How does it feel to be there? How does it feel to shout into that megaphone?
