Egging is a form of protest I think most people have seen in Hollywood movies not so much experienced it. Wasting food seems like a form of luxury.
A powerful car bomb killed a journalist called Daphne Caruana Galizia on October 16 2017. She had been investigating and exposing the deep connections between organised crime and the Maltese government. In November 2019, a middleman between the instigator and hitman became a state witness. He witnessed that the killing was paid for by a wealthy businessman, Yorgen Fenech. When this became public, it led to the sustained large-scale demonstrations in Malta.
In the video in front of the House of Parliament in Valetta, a protester throws an egg at Justice Minister Owen Bonnici. She chants, ‘Shame on you! Shame on you!’ Some also shout, ‘Murderer!’ The egg drips from Justice Minister Owen Bonnici’s suit shoulder. The man himself hunches as two guards flank him. The protestors are not filmed, but we can hear their shouts following the group of men towards the House of Parliament.
‘’Fenech’s 2019 arrest stunned Malta and triggered a political crisis that led to major street protests and the resignation of several prominent politicians and public officials, including Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi, Chris Cardona, and former police commissioner Lawrence Cutajar.’’,
