A SALVADOR DALI MASK
-
2020, 25×8×24 cm crushed safety glass collected from the streets of Gothenburg and silicone.
The box that works as a stand and storage vessel is made out of pine plywood. -
This mask borrows it’s likeness from the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. It seems to have its origins in Spain but is used also in France, Latin America and Middle East. Some demonstrators seem to use the mask in reference to a Spanish series called La Casa de Papel where it is used to obscure the identity of an over the top bank robbery. The mask is seen as an expression of a whimsical antiestablishment sentiment.
There being a slightly uneasy connection to the original artist
who was a supporter of the fascist leader Francisco Franco. -
